This sheet cake frosting is rich, creamy, and perfect for any type of cake. It's smooth, fluffy, and extremely spreadable.

  • 1 cup butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise, or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Step 1

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature


In a large bowl using an electric hand mixer, beat the butter on medium-high speed until light and fluffy.

Step 2

8 ounces cream cheese


Add the cream cheese, a little at a time, and continue to beat until well blended, another 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

4 cups powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise, or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract vanilla bean or vanilla extract


Add the powdered sugar and beat until combined. Add the salt and scrape in the vanilla seeds (or add the extract) and continue to beat until extremely smooth, fluffy, and spreadable, 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

1/8 teaspoon salt


Add 1/8 tsp salt and season with more, if needed
